My name is Ramon Christian
Im a British photographer based in NYC working between NYC, LA and London.
Over the past 8 years I've had the privilege of meeting and photographing some extraordinary men from all different backgrounds, ages and races. Actors, singers, accountants, sex workers, designers, bartenders and dancers to name a few. the one common thread i've found is that we all want love and acceptance for who we are. As a portrait photographer and someone who has lived a different life professionally from being a dancer in London then finding a new passion in photography in Los Angeles, it has given me the skill set to make people feel at ease in front of the camera as I did it for such a long time so I feel like I really understand the importance of connection between a photographer or cameraman and his subject. The best part of this for me is meeting a stranger and being invited into either a personal space or environment of theirs and seeing their personality almost unravel out of them during my time with them. I always feel like I've been a people person from a young man living in Liverpool and then London. Ive always wanted to know more, ask questions, go to places I've never been. This definitely plays its part when I'm shooting with my subjects. It fascinates me the choices people have made in life which has brought them to where they are now and also the reasons they want to be photographed by me. For some it is liberating, others it is more of a stepping out of comfort zone and sometimes just a blatant confidence boost.
The best part is allowing someone to just be, not necessarily pose, but just be with me and talk, laugh and converse. The picture then becomes the afterthought, the capture of the moment. The image then becomes the additional bonus which documents my time with them.
